FAQ

Do you wash your hair?

Yes of course we wash our hair however we use far more natural methods and products which keep our dreadlocks or locs clean and fresh.

Is the dreading process painful?

Not when you have your dreadlocks or faux locs installed by one of our Loctitians.  Surely this should be a spiritual journey not a painful one.  If the process is painful, STOP your loctitian, have a discussion about the method being used on your particular hair type.

Can you get lice?

Yes of course you can however logical thinking, a bucket load of tea tree oil and much patience is needed.  After that, you need to take precautions and let your people know that bringing lice into your world is a big NO NO!

Will dreadlocks / Faux Locs suit me?

Dreadlocks really do suit everyone.  Dreadlocks don’t discriminate.. people do!  If anything, you will grow through your transformation.  That is something beautiful to watch.

What is your advice for anyone wanting to start their dreadlocked journey?

Remember that your journey comes from within you. Your thoughts flow right to the tips of your dreads so watch what you think, get intimate with your hair and always stay your path. Love your dreads and they will love you right back. Remember that you don’t have to do this alone. Walk your journey with your Loctitian, that’s what they are there for. Have fun!

Do you offer temporary options?

Yes we do. We offer various temporary options for those not wanting to embark on a permanent journey. Our FAUX LOCS options include: Braid in’s. Pony Tails, Clip in’s.

What are your Faux Locs made from?

Yes we do offer training in the form of online classes or in person. Our course information is available on request.

From what age is it acceptable to dreadlock my child’s hair?

Dreadlocking one’s hair is a very personal thing and it is the same for a child. Parental guidance is important and so it the guidance from your loctitian. If your child says no then it’s no.

How do I know if my Loctitian is qualified?

ALWAYS ask to see the persons portfolio. If a loctitian tells you they have been dreadlocking all hair types for eight years, then you want to see eight years worth of client photos clearly showing the persons work. There is a difference between dreadlocking full time for eight years and maintaining someone’s hair every now and then.

If your Loctitian inflicts ANY pain at the start then you need to question the method immediately. Being ‘internationally trained’ doesn’t mean you can install dreadlocks correctly. If the loctitian is internationally trained then you most certainly want to take a look at those qualifications / certificates / accolades

My Loctitian says their method is the only correct method and everyone else’s method is incorrect. Is that true?

No that is not true. A trust worthy Loctitian would never say something like that. There are many methods being used globally. There is no one method that is the correct one. This would be a red flag so request their portfolio supporting their claim.

Can dreadlocks / faux locs be installed into thin hair?

Yes absolutely. However, not all Loctitians have the experience required to install into thin hair. Again, check the Loctitians portfolio so see the thin hair installations done to ensure you start your journey correctly and comfortably.

Can Loctitians work on all hair types?

No they can’t. All hair is different. Different density, thickness, texture and length. Unless the Loctitian has the hours and experience in all hair types and can show you work done in the past. Again, check the persons portfolio.

Can I end up with a receding hairline?

Yes you can, if your dreadlocks are being maintained too tightly and too often. This can certainly happen when your faux locs are too heavy and installed too tightly against the scalp.
